OUVERTURE
It was 1984, when my
assistant Lanfranco Palla and I wondered
whether thermal imaging could detect decay/cavities/defects
in trees, as it did in flat rolled products,
metal and plastic resin casting, thermal
bridges in the thermal insulation of buildings,
breast cancer, etc. At that time, we certainly
had no idea that we were about to create an
innovative, and why not, revolutionary tool,
as someone now calls it in the UK, for the
rational management of trees.
To tell the truth, we achieved this goal after
ten years during which we continuously and
passionately used Remote Sensing techniques,
that include thermal imaging, at the Italian
Institute of Health of Rome.
